Max Barry is a funny mofo. His books, Syrup, Jennifer Government and Company, are all hilarious and I can’t recommend them highly enough.
I recently discovered his blog and it has me in stitches. I rarely bother to go back through the archives of a blog, but it helps that Max writes about one entry every month or so.
This entry in particular provoked some lols.

I have officially completed the Honours year of my Bachelor of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts. Go me! Here are the photos of my work from the Undergraduate Degree Show and this is my Honours Research Paper.
My plan was to do a Masters of Teaching at Sydney next year. It’s a two year course with stream specific subjects, such as art, english and maths. I was hoping to pick up some English subjects and become an English and Art teacher at high school, but there were two setbacks. The first setback is that I have to complete at least four units of English before I am eligable to take English as a part of my Masters of Teaching. The second setback is that I missed the cut-off date for applications.
On the plus side I have not missed the cut-off date to apply for a Diploma of Arts, which would satisfy the pre-requisites for English and I will be ready to do my Masters of Teaching in 2010. Unfortunately it’s not locked in yet, I still have to apply and may not be accepted. But with any luck they’ll let me in and I’ll be teaching up a storm in no time*!

My Dad’s in hospital at the moment. He’s 58 and having his second hip replacement. In his defence the first was due to a congenital defect and the other hip was wrecked from years of limping. He’s recovering much more quickly this time, probably in large part due to knowing what to expect.
We visited him today and it was nice to see him. It is a bit strange because he has only been in hospital for a couple days and he often spends weeks overseas. I feel like I should miss him, but I’m so used to barely seeing him it’s just like normal. Hospital sounds pretty boring though and I think he was happy to have the company.
In an odd coincidence Dad was sharing a room with my science teacher from my final year in high school. He made jokes about my dismal science scores, but I resisted the urge to use the science teacher’s hated nickname. Poor guy had suffered enough, sharing the room with my Dad and his thunderous snoring.

Most nights I stay up very late and then sleep in till midday. At first this sounds great, “Oh gosh what an extravagant sleep in!” But the truth is I really only sleep about eight or nine hours a night anyway, I just happen to do them later than most people.
I used to feel really satisfied about by my ability to sleep the day away, like it was some achievement. Now it’s just inconvenient. The longer you stay awake the less people there are to talk to. As I get older more of my friends have jobs and can’t afford to stay awake till 3am. Even the uni students keep reasonable hours, despite being on holidays!
What can I do at 3am that I couldn’t at 10am? I think it may be time to try and reset my internal clock. I’m not looking forward to the waking up early and being grouchy and tired, but I guess I don’t have a lot I actually have to achieve at the moment anyway. Does anyone want to go for an early morning run?

I finally got around to uploading pictures of my grad show work. I’ll hopefully get around to writing a little bit about it for the art site. Contemporary art can be a bit of a mystery and my work is no exception. I’m just feeling a bit lazy right now.
Mini-golf with bible studly crew tonight. Should be interesting.

I had a Lucid Dream last night.
It is the fourth LD I’ve had since I started trying to induce them and three of those four have come in the last month. Of the most recent three this was probably the least exciting. Almost as soon as I realised I was dreaming this light came under my eyelids and made it very hard to do anything. I tried using the techniques I’ve heard about, spinning around and shouting “Increase Lucidity!”. They sort of helped but eventually I lost the frame of mind required to maintain and LD and it turned back into a normal dream.
The two previous LD’s were both quite fun, shooting blasts of energy from my hands and flying into outer space. I haven’t quite managed the level of control I’d like yet, but just the fact that they are happening with some frequency is pretty exciting.

I have been trying to solve my Rubik’s Cube. I came very close just now with every side finished except one corner. It was in the right place but the colours weren’t lined up with the sides. I’m worried this means my cube is wrong. How could that be you may ask, well earlier it fell apart in my hands (it’s not a very good cube) and I had to put it back together myself. I’m not even sure it’s possible to put a cube back together wrong, but it would be very frustrating if I had.
I was thinking, once you were really good at solving the Rubik’s Cube you should try and have one of every colour on each side. It would be like the sudoku Rubik’s Cube.

Dear Blog,
Today was pretty blech*. I got up early and caught the bus to uni. At uni I took photos of my artwork before taking it apart and painting over my wall drawing. Paint takes at least two hours to dry so lots of boring waiting. Mum arrived with the car around lunch time and picked up the TV’s and the basalt rock. I had to disassemble the bed and leave it out the back because it wouldn’t fit in the car. Fortunately I knew this already from previous experience so we didn’t waste any time trying to get it into the car. More painting.
I was supposed to meet up with a lecturer from uni but she was sick and canceled. Obviously not her fault but annoying. I was also supposed had a Dr’s appointment but completely spaced. They called me fifteen minutes after I should have been there to ask if I was “on the way?” I was not. We rescheduled for tomorrow though which is cool.
Got home and did some push ups (37) before going for a swim. The swim was so freakin good. It was a crap hot day and I was tired and sweaty. It was just what I needed.
We are moving stuff around at home. My sister moved out so my brother is taking her room, I’m taking his old room and Mum’s turning my old room into a sewing room. There is stuff absolutely everywhere. After my swim I moved a lot of stuff into my room and then Mum reminded me about the TV’s and the basalt rock which were still in the car. So I brought them all inside and then she “reminded” me that I had to move some of the furniture as well.
I went for another swim and then Mum told me there is more stuff to move. My arms hurt!
Blech is a technical term, meaning vomitous or generally craptastic. ^
